LIED ON THE NEISSE COMPETITION & FESTIVAL

Art song in the border landscape of Saxony and Lower Silesia

Join us for Lied in historic rooms on both sides of the Neisse: the International Lied Competition Bolko von Hochberg and the Liedfestival that follows it. Music, landscape and a shared German–Polish culture belong together here.

ABOUT LIED ON THE NEISSE

Our Mission

On both sides of the River Neisse lies a landscape of parks, palaces, spa towns, lakes and hills. Inspired by the old choral societies, the Silesian Music Festivals and the composer and impresario Bolko von Hochberg, the cultural society Ars Augusta e.V. in the Eurocity Görlitz–Zgorzelec presents the Lied Competition Bolko von Hochberg every two years. The next edition takes place in year 2028.

After the competition, laureates and selected duos return to the region for Liederabende in monuments and halls of Upper Lusatia and Lower Silesia. Audiences meet the singers and pianists in rooms and landscapes that still carry the atmosphere of the Romantic century.

We foster young artists and a living exchange between Poland and Germany — a community built through song.
